My Wadia equipment review
Having owned the Marantz for 3 months and been very happy with it I fancied a change. Enter the Wadia. Bought one at an amazing value from Martin Anderson Hi-Fi, so thought, I would easily sell them on here at no loss if I don’t fancy switching from my Marantz.
So convenient!
My amp is the integrated Perreaux Radiance 200i which is neutral but smooth with plenty of drive. Speakers are the Kef 205′s and cabling is Red Dawn.
I’ve only had a few cd’s on at this point including Bonobo – Black Sands, Rhythms del Mondo – Cuba, Primal Scream – Screamadelica and Zero 7 – Record.
OK first impressions are as follows;
The Wadia seems to be very quick footed in the bass and drives the music along nicely. It’s quick and transparent.
The soundstage is H U G E with instruments coming from all around the speakers. Music seems to be a bit quicker and more detailed than with the Marantz.
Switching back to the Marantz one notices straight away that the sound is fuller and richer. There seems to be more bass and it is subjectively louder. It’s like a
wave of sound that washes over the room. It’s not as quick footed as the Wadia but has a beguiling quality which is very nice.
My wife said that listening to the Marantz was more like a live band and the Wadia was more like a studio version.
